Pastels for the Serious Beginner

Working from photographs of Cannon Beach, students will learn pastel
painting skills and techniques including how to successfully apply pastel on
paper. The workshop will begin with warm-up exercises to become familiar
with the differences in utilizing soft, hard, and oil pastels. Students will
become familiar with the techniques of scumbling, blending, and finishing,
and learn more about basic color theory and drawing techniques. We’ll
constructively consider composition options and experiment with how to
negotiate the addition of light and shade to create depth and dimension. With
step-by-step instruction, students will create a pastel landscape painting on
paper from start to finish in a fun and relaxed environment.
