Margaret MacLean
About Margaret Maclean:
"I am a ceramic artist living in Bellevue, Washington. I have been working in clay for 20+ years, and I enjoy the tactile and versatile nature of the material. My art is inspired by natural, organic forms. I love exploring texture, so my ceramics are tactile and entice viewers to touch them. When I create a piece, I start with an idea in mind and let form and presence emerge as I work. It is often something unexpected.
I’m fascinated by the repetitive patterns that I see in nature. Repetition is definitely key to my process. I enjoy the meditative aspect of making and attaching each piece to the basic form, creating pattern and movement. Much of my exploration is influenced by my love of nature and in particular, sea life, having grown up on the west coast of British Columbia.
I received my BFA in Visual Arts, Ceramics from Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver, Canada. Upon graduating, I maintained a studio practice and exhibited my art at Vancouver galleries. I worked for many years in arts education, coordinating arts programs at the college level, which connected my passion for the arts and for helping people find their unique creative expression."
