Statement: My name is Isabella Hendricks. I was born and raised in the harsh heat of Phoenix, Arizona, but I feel most at home close to saltwater. I enjoy traveling and scuba diving with my husband, and the experiences we share underwater act as inspiration for my art. I'm a surrealist artist whose work brings the ocean closer to the desert environment in which I reside. After graduating from Arizona State University with BFA's in Drawing and Painting in 2020, I have spent the past five years developing my scuba skills and, well, diving into the world of marine ecosystems all around the world. I seek to draw comparisons between the structures of plants and marine life underwater to something so distantly removed as a desert to show that there maybe more in common than you would think; that these ecosystems are intricately connected to each other. My hope is to promote interest in the sea, educate about the marine life that lives there.
