Description: From the sandy sea bottom, a single piling, remnant of a long-decayed
pier juts up. Creatures of the sea make their home on the aging wood while sea grass
rocks with the surrounding current.
This multimedia work is crafted from aged old-growth fir originally salvaged from the
mid-20 th century Tillamook burn. Live edge maple forms the base and sandy floor of the
composition. Sea stars are created in forged steel, surfaced using welding torches,
then highlighted with selective copper burnishing. Folded and textured copper is used
to create the leafy structure of surrounding sea plants.
